Masterclass assignments, arrivals + more

You received this in an email on 6/19:

Hi all -

We look forward to seeing you soon in San Francisco!

A few quick things:

  • Reminder that our opening meeting is Saturday, 6/22 at 9 am in the FOO FAMILY READING ROOM (12th floor).  This meeting is mandatory for participants and auditors.  We will have coffee!

  • Masterclass assignments have been made.  Most of you have probably seen these via the Slack channel, but I don’t think all of you are on it yet.  (If not, please let me know and I can help you - we use it to post important info and quickly broadcast announcements).  Click here to see the schedule.  It is also posted on the student info hub on the AoP site, under “Quick Access.”

  • We are working on the recitals and are nearly done.

  • HAPPY surprise with housing, for those of you staying in Bowes: you will each have single rooms!  The setup is 3 private bedrooms in a unit with no shared common area.

  • Arrivals: SFCM has your names, estimated arrival times, and I’ve highlighted anyone arriving early in yellow for them.  I met with them yesterday and they mentioned the early arrivals - so you are set!  Reminder that the check-in is hotel style; anytime after 3 pm.  Go to the front desk and give them your name - let them know that you are with Art of the Piano.  They will give you your badge and room #.  Your badge gets you onto the elevator and through the turnstiles.  Don’t lose it!

  • Please refer to the attached handbook regarding your stay in Bowes.  This is also on the Slack channel and on the student info hub.  It has phone numbers of the RA in case of an emergency, or for general questions.  I will also be on site, as will Yuki Yokota.

  • For parents of minors: Yuki Yokota (copied) is the chaperone, and the floor minors will be on is the 8th floor (she will be there with them).  For general questions, it’s best to use Slack (again, if you don’t have it yet, let me know and I’ll get you set up - we use it a lot and it’s the fastest way to get in touch with us).  Otherwise, here is my Google number, which rings to my cell phone: 513-549-6402.  You can also text this number.

  • Meal plans: for those of you who ordered meal plans, you will use your badge to swipe for your meals.  You will receive your badge when you check in at the dorm.

  • Food shopping: I’ve been told that a Trader Joe’s has just opened 1 block from the conservatory.  There’s also a Target and Whole Foods close by, and you should be able to have food delivered from them either using their native apps/services, and probably Instacart too, if you want that convenience.

  • Practice Rooms: participants (but not auditors) will have access to practice rooms via your badges in both the Ann Getty Center (a few blocks away) and Bowes.  SFCM will put signage on the rooms that are being reserved for you.  Here is a list of the rooms:

Practice Rooms (June 22 - July 7)

Ann Getty Center:

Piano Priority rooms = 514, 515, 516, 517, 518, 520, 521 (7 rooms total)

Classrooms = 319, 323, 101, C01, C16 (5 rooms total)

AGC faculty studio = 534

Bowes Rooms: 210, 211, 215, B101, B106 (except June 22 and 23; temporarily in AGC practice rooms)

I am flying to San Francisco myself tomorrow, so my ability to communicate will be sporadic.

Safe travels, and see you soon!

Sara
