Registration & Arrival Information

The info below was also sent to you in an email on 5/7/2024:

Hello all!

We’re looking forward to welcoming you to San Francisco in June!

Thank you for your patience as we navigate our new home.

There are several forms you must fill out in order to attend Art of the Piano, and for us to prep for your arrival.  Please note that minors’ parents or guardians must fill out different forms/information in some instances.

There’s a ton of information to read and to be collected.  Thank you in advance for taking the time to read everything carefully and get things submitted on time.

Here is a password-protected page on our website that will contain registration links and other important information.

The password is: AOPSFCM2024

The page is: https://www.artofthepiano.org/student-information-page

Here is a rundown of what we need from you, and when (all of this is on the page listed above):

OFFICIAL REGISTRATION - DUE MAY 15 (it will take only a few minutes)

Note: A deposit of $250 will be collected at the time of registration.  This deposit is to cover lost badges and such, and is returned at the close of the festival.  If you lose a badge, replacement fees owed to SFCM will be taken out of your deposit.  Additionally, you will be asked to abide by the Festival Handbook, you can find on the student info page of our site. Links are also provided through the registration process.

If you are 18+ click here to register for Art of the Piano

Minors: a parent or guardian must use this form to register you

HOUSING + BADGES - DUE MAY 24

Your badge gives you access to housing, practice facilities, and masterclass/recital facilities.  You MUST submit these materials no later than May 24 in order to give us time to get your badges ready.  If you do not submit these materials, you won’t have access to housing.  You will need a passport-style photo (a selfie on a white background) in order to obtain a badge.

Some notes about housing:

  • Early check-in/late check-out can be accommodated, though you will have to pay for extra nights on your own.  It is approximately $65/person/night.

  • Check-in hours are hotel style: check-in at 3 pm or after; check-out at 11 am. If you are arriving in the middle of the night, that can be accommodated, as long as you let us know in advance by completing your housing form on time. There will be a place to leave luggage if you need to.

  • Housing is a suite-style living area that includes: fridge, microwave, common living space, 2 shared bedrooms with 4 total beds, bathroom.  More information about The Bowes Center can be found here.

  • Reminder that unaccompanied minors will be staying on a special floor with a responsible adult.  Minors are not allowed on non-minor floors or in the rooms of anyone over 18 without their parent/guardian.

  • If you are interested in staying with your minor child on campus, you can tell us via registration and we’ll see what can be done.

  • Single rooms are available, but you will have to pay out of pocket for the cost.  The cost for a single room is $130/person/night.

  • SFCM does not provide linens (sheets, towels, blankets).  You will either need to bring your own, or purchase some once you arrive.  There is a Target and IKEA close to the conservatory from which you can order (Target delivers same day for a fee; IKEA has click-and-collect; both are accessible via mass transit).

  • We will ask you for arrival dates, times and airlines as part of your housing registration.

Click here to access housing registration.

REPERTOIRE - DUE MAY 24

Teachers will be assigned this year according to the repertoire you’re bringing.  Please note that Vladimir Feltsman will be giving a Bach talk, and if you’re interested in playing for him, bring Bach.

For recitals, please bring 20 total minutes of music.  For masterclasses, you should have 10-12 minutes of music.  It is okay if recital and masterclass repertoire overlap - it’s totally up to you if you want to do that.

EMERGENCY INFORMATION - DUE JUNE 1

BIO + HEADSHOTS - DUE JUNE 1

This will be so that we can put your information on our website and in programs.  Please submit by June 1.  Failure to submit may mean that you don’t appear on our roster.

MISC

Meals

We highly encourage you to purchase a meal plan for your stay at San Francisco Conservatory of Music.  The meals are overseen by San Francisco chef Loretta Keller and can accommodate a variety of dietary restrictions and allergies.  You will have the opportunity to tell us about your dietary needs/restrictions when purchasing the plan so that arrangements can be made for you.  The cafeteria is in the bottom of the building where you’ll be living, having master classes and recitals; and where some of the practice rooms are.  It will be a convenient and easy way to have delicious, healthy, locally-sourced food ready, when you need it.  You also have the option of grabbing your meal and eating in common areas or your room if you wish.

The cost of the meal plan will be approximately $13/meal, and only breakfast and dinner are offered as part of the plan.  The cost is significantly less than what you’d spend eating out in San Francisco.  We are waiting on final details from SFCM in order to provide you with a purchasing link.

Communications

Please keep an eye out for an invitation to our Slack channel. We will use this to message you during the festival, post schedules, discuss things, post programs for review, and more.

Handbook

Answers to many other questions can be found here, in the handbook.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns.

We can’t wait to see you!
