Seongkyeong Kim was born in Incheon, South Korea. She earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from Chung-Ang University. Seongkyeong then received her Master of Music degree in piano performance from the University of Minnesota School of Music where she continues her doctoral studies under the guidance of Professor Paul Shaw. 

Seongkyeong has won top prizes at several competitions in Korea, including the Incheon Young Artist Piano Competition, JEI Piano Competition, National Music Association Piano Competition, Music Education News Competition and Incheon Arts High School Concerto Competition. As a winner of the Concerto Competition at Chung-Ang University, Seongkyeong has appeared with the Chung-Ang Symphony Orchestra at Seoul Arts Center (SAC) Concert Hall.

In the United States, Seongkyeong Kim was invited to perform in the 2017 Before Bach’s Birthday Bash Concert that was broadcast live on Minnesota Public Radio. In Minneapolis, she has also performed in the Thursday Musical Young Artist Competition Winners’ Showcase and as soloist with the Kenwood Symphony Orchestra as a winner of their 21st Annual Masters Concerto and Aria Competition. She is the recipient of the Judges’ Special Recognition Award from the 48th Annual William C. Byrd International Young Artist Competition held in Flint, Michigan in March 2019.
