Welcome to Art of the Piano 2021!
This year: New Directions
We’re excited to preview our live 2022 season virtually this year. The 2022 festival will feature a lot of new directions in music, exploring a greater range of pianistic styles with people who are inventing new ways of realizing their dreams and careers, and in so doing creating broader examples of what success looks like for our young musicians.
We will have several different types of transcriptions, improvisers, productions using electronic sound and animation, and of course some straight classical! Highlighting the latter will be a discussion with Vladimir Feltsman on his upcoming edition of the Bach Preludes and Fugues.
This new direction is an outgrowth of the StillPoint project which commissioned 7 composers to write for me in various combinations with string orchestra and Roomful of Teeth. You’ll hear and meet some of the composers and we’ll have discussions with the producers of the project.
This year the festival will take place primarily on the Stillpoint site, where you’ll also find the complete schedule and details on how to participate.
These will all be via Zoom, and you’ll receive links for each event via email (signup at the bottom of this page)
Also during this time we’ll be posting videos from our Young Artists so you can follow what they’ve been up to this past year and hear their progress!
I look forward to seeing you soon!
