Oleksandr Leonov was born in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. In his childhood he demonstrated bright musical abilities and a love for art. He studied with Natalia Walter in the Zaporizhzhia Music School between 2003 and 2012. He was also an artist of the Zaporizhzhia Musical Philharmonic for Children. From 2012 to 2016, he studied at the R. Glier Kyiv Institute of Music under the guidance of Juliana Yablonskaya, where he graduated with highest honors. He is a laureate of many competitions, including the Accord of Khortytsia Festival, the Slavic Music Festival, the Niehaus Music Meetings, the L. Shure piano competition, the O. Orlova competition, and the Yamaha Music Gulf FZE Scholarship Program.
In 2016, Oleksandr received the special award for best performance of a romantic piece in the DSCH International Competition in Dnipropetrovsk. He has participated in masterclasses of Valery Piasecki, Natalia Kudritskaya, Yuri Kot , Antoniy Barishevsky, Boris Bloch, and Mark Lakirovich. He has performed in many prestigious concert halls in Ukraine, such as Glinka Philharmonic Concert Hall, Lysenko Colonnaded Hall of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Chamber Hall, and Kiev National House of Scientists. Oleksandr is an active performer, and has recently completed a series of concerts in Germany. In April 2017, he received the third prize in the Vladimir Horowitz Piano Competition.
