Project Description

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 2001, Chris Chu has been studying piano from the age of 3, and has been studying under the direction of Professor Xiao Li since 2014. What interests him most is playing the piano and creating music while diving into a world where sound dictates personality. Chris has already amassed an impressive array of musical accomplishments: he has won over 50 nation-wide awards. His accolades include Kiwanis Music Festival first prizes, Richmond Music Festival first prizes, performances in gala concerts, VIP performances in piano houses, being named most promising and most outstanding young pianist in competitions, a grand first prize at the Canadian Music Competition, and first prize at the AFAF (American Fine Arts Foundation) International Concerto Competition.

Chris has also taken part in master classes from renowned pianists such as Manahem Pressler, and is frequently invited to perform locally at different venues. Aside from competitions, Chris has participated in the Indiana University Piano Academy, a music camp designed for promising young pianists where he had the privilege of performing in the Honours Recital. At home, Chris fiddles with composition software on his computer and writes music notation on inspirational pieces of paper.
