Born in San Juan Puerto Rico in 1999, Rolando began piano lessons at age of eight. In 2008 he joined the pre-college program of the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, and during the years 2010 through 2016, he was student of Teresa Acevedo. He followed studies with Sergio Ruiz, Thomas Lymenstull, and Robert Satterlee at Interlochen Summer Arts Program 2013-2015. He also studied with José Ramos Santana, Golda Tatz, Martin Labazevich, Ian Hobson, and Boaz Sharon at the Puerto Rico International Piano Festival. He has participated in masterclasses with Michael Lewin, Rebecca Penneys, Yong Hi Moon, Blanca Uribe, Benjamin Warsaw, Paul Schenly, Alessio Bax, Michael Coonrod, Sheryl Iott, and Dennis Alexander.
During the fall of 2016, Rolando became a student of Matti Raekallio at The Juilliard School. Rolando is a recipient of the 2016 Chopin Foundation of the United States Scholarship, a 2016 National YoungArts Foundation Merit Winner, a 2015 Interlochen Maddy Summer Artist Award for piano, and 2014 Interlochen Summer Fine Arts Awards. In October 2015, he won first prize in the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music’s XVIII Concerto Competition, and later performed the Saint Saëns Concerto No. 2, op. 22 with the conservatory’s Symphony Orchestra.
