About Art of the Piano 2018-12-31T22:06:23+00:00

Art of the Piano is a festival I created to raise the level of artistry for young pianists.  It’s a platform for them to work with the world’s leading artists and teachers, to perfect recital and competition repertoire, and to have a quiet, beautiful place to practice + learn. Exceptional musicians – those just beginning their careers, and those who are luminaries – convene from all over the world to learn, play and teach each summer here in Cincinnati.

Launched in 2011, the festival is inspired by the generous masterclasses of Franz Liszt.  In this format, all the lessons are masterclasses. A general openness is fostered in an exceptionally supportive environment.

For our young artists, it’s an opportunity of a lifetime.  For the rest of us, it’s a chance to get a front-row seat to high-caliber learning + teaching, and to hear some of today’s most electrifying and noted pianists in a gorgeous hall, on amazing instruments.

An Enlight Prize of $3000.00, together with a recital on the 2019-2020 Salon 21 Series will go to the pianist who most embodies the spirit of the festival in terms of the beauty and brilliance of their playing , as well as their generosity of spirit.  A runner up will also be selected, with a prize of $1500.

Art of the Piano is thrilled to announce a new partnership with the Olga Kern Piano Competition.
One young artist from among the winners and honorable mentions of the Art of the Piano 2018 Enlight Prize has been granted automatic entry to the Olga Kern Competition in 2019.  Additionally, the winner of the 2019 Olga Kern Competition will automatically be admitted as a Fellow for the 2020 Art of the Piano festival.

We are inspired by the level of talent this festival attracts.  Because of my strong belief in educating and lifting up talented young pianists, this festival is free for these young artists.

The remarkably generous donors at the Art of the Piano Foundation are making this possible, so all they have to worry about is showing up and playing their best.

Thank you for being part of this unique festival – we look forward to meeting you at the concerts.
